Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, we welcome you all once again to the 8th Annual Nigeria Liquefied Petroleum Gas Association (NLPGA) Conference and Exhibition, hosted at the PTDF Complex, in Abuja, Nigeria’s federal capital city.
The NLPGA is the umbrella association for LPG sector in Nigeria, cutting across the entire LPG value chain, from production, coastal and inland warehousing, terminalling and bulk breaking, shipping, marine and road transportation, autogas, cylinder filling and distribution, cylinders and accessories manufacturing, engineering and construction, sales and marketing, training and capacity building, policy and general awareness advocacy for safe use of LPG.
The NLPGA Conference and Exhibition is an annual event in the Nigeria LPG Sector calendar, which brings together all the key stakeholders; Governmentat all levels, Regulatory agencies of government, Public and Private organizations within and beyond the LPG sector, to deliberate on issues and measures aimed at promoting the continuous development and growth of Nigeria LPG economy in particular, and the global LPG economy in general, comparing by measurable indices, best global LPG economies, in terms of opportunities, competitiveness and growth performances, as well as provide networking opportunities for LPG players drawn from the local and internationalspace.
This year’s Nigeria Liquefied Petroleum Gas Association (NLPGA) Conference and Exhibition is themed; LPG DIVERSIFICATION; EXPANDING THE LPG FRONTIERS IN AFRICA, which will focus on policies and programs specific to Nigeria and as well as for Africa, aimed at promoting the diverse applicable uses of LPG, away from its traditional use as domestic cooking fuel, and opportunities therein for LPG traders and infrastructure developers.
In his show of commitment to Nigeria’s LPG sector growth and development, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, His Excellency, the vice President of Federal Republic of Nigeria and Chairman National Economic Council, as the Champion of Nigeria LPG sector reforms, will be giving the key note address, which will touch on policy initiatives aimed at supporting LPG sector growth for now and in the future. Leading industry experts from within and outside Nigeria, including Dr. Ibe Emmanuel Kachukwu, the Honorable Minister of State for Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Dr. MaikantiBaru, Group Managing Director of NNPC, Director General, of Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) and Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, Ghana’s HonorableDeputy Minister of Energy, are amongst the confirmed speakers and panel discussants.
Our distinguished conference attendees will learn from diverse topical issues deliberated in the course of the conference, on how Nigeria LPG sector has managed to grow by about 1,000% in the last 10years, to become one of the fastest growing LPG markets in the world, pulling mostly private capital for LPG infrastructure build out, in a fully deregulated market economy. We will learn about Nigeria’s fiscal incentives for LPG sector, and Safe practices regulatory enforcement initiatives of the SON and DPR, as we take on the new growth trajectory, to journey from our current 600,000MT/annum demand to over 5,000,000MT/annum in 10 years, with measures to impact on Africa’s LPG economy.
It is strategic for the LPG sector, that the PTDF is playing host to this year’s conference and exhibition, in light of the National Gas Policy, and the PTDF’s Position as a capacity building agency of the oil and gas sector, that aims to be the knowledge hub for west African oil and gas technology and enhance the Nigerian content participation in the industry through its interventions, and LPG Intervention is pivotal to achieving this mandate for the Gas sector.
This sector as you would come to have a deeper understanding of by the end of this conference, has an exponential potential to encourage huge investmentsacross the value chain in the sector and the inclusion of a large pool of lower- and middle-class Nigerians as artisans, technicians and professionals in the mainstream employable activities. Hence, the NLPGA will be working closely with the PTDF going forward, to actualize its mandate with filling in the human capacity gap in the LPG sector, ranging from conversion kits installation for power generators and utility PMS vehicles, domestic cylinder fitters, storage tanks and accessories fabrication, LPG plant operators, LPG road tankers operators and drivers, LPG to power conversions, LPG reticulation for residential and industrial complexes, Health-safety and maintenance processes, etc, starting with the lowest hanging fruits. The beauty of LPG compared to Natural Gas is its relatively lower cost of development and fast multiexponential rate of returns.
On exhibition will be LPG equipment cutting across diverse applications in all segments of the LPG value chain, including cooking, autogas, power generation, cooling, heating, etc.
I will like to on behalf of the Executive Committee and Governing Council of the NLPGA, thank our event sponsors, for without whom this event would not have been possible.
