Total E&P Nigeria Limited, TEPNG, in partnership with Universal Medicare Foundation has commenced a free health programme for 58 of their host communities at the Ogbogu cottage Hospital in Ogba/ Egbema/Ndoni Local Government area of Rivers State.
According to the company the program for few weeks and it is aimed at improving the health of their “land lords” stressing that, health is wealth, “if you are not healthy you cannot go out for work that is one will not eat”.
Speaking on behalf Total at opening ceremony on Wednesday, November 20, 2013, the DMD Port Harcourt District, Mr. Nicolas Brunet who was represented by Mr. Okechukwu Obara the Community Service Manager said, the free health program is one of the many effort the organization has reached out to the needs of the people as it is the 11th of its kind.
He maintained that, the program is an addition to the numerous health careservices like HIV/ AIDS awareness campaign, Roll Back Malaria Program, Prostate and Cervical cancer Awareness Programme.
Others are safe motherhood initiatives, First-aid trainings, and basicmaternity training for traditional birth attendants carried out to support the preventive and curative health care programs of government in the communities.
This year’s program according to the Total is a comprehensive health program that will feature surgeries, medication, clinical consultation, provision of lens for eye defects, screening of diseases.
This daily can report that some individuals have already been operated on the eye drugs and lens has been issued and other minor operations like hernia, appendix amongst others have been carried out by the doctors.
