The Acting Head of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Dr. Anthony Akah, has said that the recently reviewed Multi Year Tariff Order (MYTO-2015) is a remedial regulatory action towards addressing the several challenges facing the nation’s power sector, ThisDay reports.

Akah stated that the order would primarily focus on making the distribution and transmission segments of the industry viable to enable efficiency in execution of contracts in the entire value chain as well as proper lift-up of the Transitional Electricity Market (TEM).

He also noted that consumers had been adequately taken care of in the tariff order, adding that certain mechanisms to protect consumers’ interest were built into it. Akah also added that in the order, Discos are mandated to complete metering of unmetered customers within one year after which no more estimation of customers will be allowed.
