PowerChina, Kogi partner on 3000mw coal, hydro power projects

The President of PowerChina International Group Limited, Song Dongsheng, visited Kogi governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, at his private residence in Abuja, yesterday, to discuss ways of fast tracking the implementation of the 3000MW Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed during the recently held Kogi Economic and Investment Summit, Leadership reports.

Dongsheng, who said the meeting was a follow-up to the MOU signing, requested that a technical team on the side of the Kogi State Government be set up quickly before the arrival of PowerChina’s technical team, scheduled to arrive the state in two weeks’ time.

He also asked that the two sites for the projects be quickly identified. He explained that the project comprised of two individual projects; a 2,400MW coal-fired power generating plant and a 600MW hydro-powered plant.

Governor Bello assured the investors of adequate security for their investment and that his government is ready to safeguard the lives of the personnel and equipment of the company within the borders of the state. He also said that the technical team has already been set up and the sites already identified. He said all that is needed is for work to begin.
