Equatorial Guinea’s head of state Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo has re-appointed his son Gabriel Mbega Obiang Lima as Minister of Hydrocarbons, just days after the entire ministerial line-up resigned amid presidential criticism of the government’s economic and financial performance.

Miguel Ekua Ondo has been named Minister of Industry & Energy, Salvador Ondo Ncumu becomes Minister of Justice, while Simeon Oyono Esongo Angue takes the Foreign Affairs portfolio.

In resuming his role as Hydrocarbons Minister, Gabriel Mbega Obiang Lima is expected to guide the upstream and midstream oil and gas sector away from decline and resolve outstanding issues related to the transfer of equity in key assets like the Zafiro field.
