In the Council of Ministers, the Nigerien government adopted a draft decree determining the terms and conditions for the conclusion of delegation agreements and the granting of licenses within the framework of the exercise of public service for electric energy.

According to the government, it is a question, through this measure, of taking into account the peculiarities of the electricity subsector to define suitable rules on transparency and competition, for independent energy producers depending on project, result, national planning.

According to the Niamey website and Les 2 Jours , the draft decree goes in direct line with the 2016 law on the electricity code specifically on the independent production of electricity in Niger.
