NERC insists on 100% safety compliance for electricity workers

NERC LogoThe Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has insisted on strict compliance to health and safety rules for all workers in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).

NERC’s Chairman, Dr. Sam Amadi, stated this at the inception of a 3-day health and safety workshop organised by NERC alongside the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Tuesday.

While taking NERC staff on strict compliance to a newly approved Health and Safety Environment (HSE) policy to enhance safety compliances of electricity workers, Amadi said, “We are to be 100 percent health and safety compliant.”

The HSE policy would enable the prevention of accidents and cases of work-related ill health within the Commission and the NESI. It also entails the provision of adequate controls and mitigation of risks arising from work activities for electricity staff.

Amadi however urged everyone to imbibe conscious attitudes in the workplace. “I want to urge everybody to be extra-conscious, we are organising this workshop in order to create consciousness in its entirety,” Amadi said.

The Deputy General Manager in the Engineering Division of NERC, Engr. Abdul Bello Mohammed, disclosed that a HSE committee has been set up to carry out risk assessment on quarterly basis, while the Engineering Standards & Safety (ES&S) Division will execute actions that could control or remove hazards in the Commission.
