The management of Midwestern Oil and Gas has condemned the attack on its facilities earlier in the month by armed youths in the host community of Umusadege Commnity in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State.
In a statement signed by the company secretary, Mr Chris Omoru, the company lamented the inhuman treatment meted out on the company’s personnel and maintained that the attack was unwarranted and called for the arrest and prosecution of those behind the attack.
The statement further explained that a certain amorphous group under the aegis of Umusadege Youth Forum, had written to it two weeks before the attack threatening to disrupt its operations unless its demands were met.
The company noted that the allegations and demands of the group were as strange as they were unfounded .
“The incoherent letter further threatened that if the company did not respond to the issues raised, it will be compelled to “take any action that will disrupt the smooth operation of your organization.
“The allegations were as strange as they were unfounded, given the fact that the company has been very active in the discharge of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) which has been through scholarship awards to the youths of the community, renovation of classrooms, building of roads, offering skill acquisition trainings, provision of water scheme, etc.”
The company stressed that the assailants were unknown both to the community and the company, as its relationship with the community remained cordial and warm.
