Mauritania’s SOMELEC announces a 20% drop in the electricity tariff for small consumers

In Mauritania, the Mauritanian Electricity Company (SOMELEC) has just announced a 20% drop in the electric tariff applied to consumers eligible for the social tariff, reports Senalioune . The implementation of this new measure is part of the “  Priority # 1” program initiated by President Mohamed Ould Cheick EL Ghazouani, the company said.

“The Mauritanian society Electricity is pleased to inform its valued customers a 20% discount on the share of electricity tariff came into effect from 1 st March 2020” announced SOMELEC in a press release.

The social tariff takes into account 173,426 customers depending on the company. A proportion which represents approximately 57% of subscribers.

Recall that Mauritania has an electrification rate of 42.9% according to the World Bank.
