The Malian government approved the signing of the contract for the purchase of electricity produced by the Sikasso solar power station. The plant, with a capacity of 50 MW, will be located in the city of Sikasso, 375 km southeast of Bamako.

It will be built as part of a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer, according to which the developer, PowerPro, will develop, finance, and build the plant it will own and operate before transferring it to national authorities.

The plant is scheduled to operate for 28 years. Its construction will cost about $50 million and has already received financial support from the International Development Association (IDA).

The construction of this plant is part of improving access to energy in the country where only 35% of the population has access to electricity.
