Not less than N50 billion has been spent by the Jos Electricity Distribution (JED PLC) towards stabilising the energy distribution network in its franchise states of Bauchi, Benue, Gombe, and Plateau, Independent reports.

Friday Adakole Elijah, the Corporate Affairs Manager of JED Plc, made this disclosure in a statement yesterday. Elijah said that transformers, network improvement equipment, transformer oils, control panels, smart meters, information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure for billing platform, filler-pillars and energy analysers had also been acquired and installed by the company.

According to him, when in 2015, Mohammed Gidado Modibbo took over the mantle of leadership of Jos Electricity Distribution (JED PLC), following the privatisation of the energy industry in 2013 as the Acting Managing Director, his immediate task was to distribute energy to the firm’s customers in all the franchise states. He however said that various impediments constituted tremendous obstacles to the smooth operation of the electricity outfit.
