Fire damages 1.7MW power plant in Banyo, northern Cameroon

The thermal power plant with a capacity of 1.7 MW, which supplies electrical energy to the populations of Banyo and its surroundings, in the Adamawa region, suffered a fire on February 9, 2020, revealed the regional weekly L’oeil du Sahel .

According to the same source, the fire put out of use two of the four generators in this plant, as well as many electric cables. Local sources said the fire was caused by young people who contest the results of their municipal and legislative double poll organized in the country on February 9, 2020.

This thesis is however rejected by the local public authorities, who rather blacklist a short-circuit.

” Only an in-depth expertise will be able to determine the exact circumstances of this case, ” said a source to Eneo, the concessionaire of the public electricity service in Cameroon.
