Zamfara State Government is to benefit from Federal Government partnership for expanded water supply, sanitation and hygiene programme, as contract for the construction of 32 new simple solar borehole in three Local Government Areas of the State.

State Commissioner for Rural Development and Cooperatives, Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi, who disclosed this at the formal flag off of the project, said the beneficial Local Government Areas are, Kaura Namoda, Bungudu and Maradun.

He further said, under the programme 18 conventional boreholes would be rehabilitated and upgraded to solar borehole.

The commissioner however, said another 60 broken-down hand pumps at the three selected local government areas would be rehabilitated by the federal government.

According to him, another set of three local government areas-Anka, Zurmi and Bukkuyum would also benefit from Partnership Expanded Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene Programme (PEWASH).

“The PEWASH programme is going to be implemented in six select local government areas of Anka, Bungudu, Bukkuyum, Maradun, Kaura Namoda and Zurmi”, he added.

In his speech, Programme Manager RUWATSAN, Sani Gurbin-Bore, said the agency and federal ministry for water resources have been working together to create a better living condition for Rural dwellers with focus on access to safety water and sanitation.

According to him, the main objective of PEWASH was to prioritize the achievement of 100% access to water supply and improved sanitation by the year 2030.
