Following a 2013 agreement, the Federal Government has concluded plans to scale up the local manufacturing of power transformers and solar panels in partnership with the Peoples’ Republic of China, The Punch reports.

A delegation comprising members of the National Assembly and officials of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) just returned from China in connection with the project. The Executive Vice Chairman, NASENI, Prof. Mohammed Haruna, said on Friday that his agency had commenced the production of transformers, but added that it was not producing them in commercial quantities.

He said his visit to China was in connection with the setting up of a high voltage testing laboratory as well as the production of solar panels in Nigeria in collaboration with China Great Wall Industry Corporation in order to boost local capacity.
