€20m raised from Bpifrance to finance public lighting in Benin

The Beninese government has just mobilized € 20.6 million in financing from the Bpifrance Investment Bank for the benefit of its electricity sector. The funds will be used for a public lighting project in several localities.

The project, which will be implemented by the French energy specialist Fonroche Lighting, will involve 9 cities in the country as part of the ” Asphalting ” project dedicated to the construction of road infrastructure throughout the country. A total of 15,000 photovoltaic street lights are planned to be installed.

Recall that the country has set itself the goal of achieving electric autonomy by 2021 by increasing its installed capacity to 400 MW. In this mix, 100 MW will be supplied by solar power plants located in several localities.

Currently, the country has reduced its demand satisfaction rate by local production to 50% and several other projects, including that of a new 120 MW thermal power plant at Maria-Gléta, have been launched.
