‘Nigeria’s gas reserves now 600Tcf’ – NGA

Gas producers under the auspices of Nigeria Gas Association (NGA) have said the nation’s gas proven reserve is in the region of 600 trillion cubic feet (Tcf).

This is against the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), a regulatory arm of the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources’ estimated level of 192Tcf.

Speaking in Lagos, President of NGA, Dr. Dada Thomas, said in order to harness the huge resources for the benefits of the nation’s economy, deliberate steps must be taken to explore for gas as opposed to coincidental discovery during oil exploration if the huge reserve was to be used for the benefit of the country.

Dr. Thomas also appealed to the Federal Government to make the investment environment more attractive and ensure the workability of the “willing buyer, willing seller” concept in the gas industry.
